GST Registration: Directors Can Now Opt for Authentication in Their Home State

Directors Can Now Opt for Authentication

Introduction

Directors Can Now Opt for Authentication  GST registration has always been a critical step for businesses, ensuring compliance with taxation laws in India. To enhance security and minimize fraudulent registrations, GSTN mandates Aadhaar-based authentication for new applicants. This authentication can be done through OTP verification or Biometric Authentication at a designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK).

Previously, applicants selected for Biometric Authentication had to visit the jurisdictional GSK assigned to them. Directors Can Now Opt for Authentication  However, GSTN has now introduced a significant enhancement that allows certain Promoters and Directors of companies to complete their Biometric Authentication at any GSK within their Home State. This move is aimed at improving convenience and ensuring a smoother registration process.

Understanding the New Enhancement

Under the updated system, eligible Promoters and Directors of specific business entities can now complete their Biometric Authentication at any available GSK in their Home State, rather than being restricted to a jurisdictional center.

Who is Eligible?

This facility applies to Promoters or Directors listed in the Promoter/Partner tab for the following business types:

  • Public Limited Companies
  • Private Limited Companies
  • Unlimited Companies
  • Foreign Companies

Key Features of the New Biometric Authentication Process

  1. Intimation Email Notification:
    • If a new GST registration application is selected for Biometric Authentication, GSTN will send an intimation email to the applicant.
    • This email will contain a link allowing eligible Promoters/Directors to select a GSK within their Home State for authentication.
  2. GSK Selection in the Home State:
    • Eligible Promoters/Directors must follow the instructions in the email to choose a GSK within their Home State.
    • This is a one-time selection and cannot be changed later, so applicants should choose carefully.
  3. Availability Across States and UTs:
    • The facility is currently available in 33 States/UTs where Biometric Authentication is enabled.
    • It will soon be extended to the remaining three states: Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim.
    • Promoters/Directors whose Home State is not Uttar Pradesh, Assam, or Sikkim can opt for any GSK within their Home State.
  4. Slot Booking and Confirmation:
    • Upon selecting a Home-State GSK, the applicant will receive a confirmation email with a new slot booking link.
    • They can then book a convenient slot for authentication at the chosen GSK, subject to availability.
  5. Completion of Biometric Process:
    • The Promoter/Director must visit the selected GSK at the booked slot time to complete photo capture and Biometric Authentication.
    • If they have already completed this process, they will not be required to do it again.
  6. Role of the Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS):
    • If the Promoter/Director is also the Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS), they cannot use the Home-State GSK selection option.
    • In such cases, the PAS must visit the designated jurisdictional GSK for authentication and document verification.
    • To ensure smooth processing, Promoters/Directors should complete their Biometric Authentication before the PAS visits the GSK.
  7. Optional Participation:
    • Opting for Biometric Authentication in the Home State is not mandatory.
    • Promoters/Directors can still visit their jurisdictional GSK if they prefer.
